Tell us how you got to the Together Center board and your role. My husband, William, and I moved here just after college, put down roots, and have raised our two sons here. As a 30-year resident of the Eastside, I’ve had the privilege of participating in a dynamic, innovative community that cares for others. After working at the Puget Sound Blood Center (now Bloodworks Northwest), I began to focus on community volunteer service with organizations such as Eastside Baby Corner, the Issaquah Human Services Commission, Boy Scouts of America, and Northwest Junior Pipe Band. Five years ago, I was delighted to join the TC Board of Directors as it began strategic planning for our current redevelopment project. Since then, I’ve served as Vice President and Chair of the Communications and Board Development committees. What about Together Center's mission resonates with you? So many diverse services, all located under one roof, create a way to care for the whole person, not just for one need or with one solution. Communities thrive when all their residents thrive. Together Center provides an innovative way to help ensure that everyone has a way to get help when they need it – whether it’s finding a safe place to live, a way to pay their bills or medical attention. What is an experience or moment that has stood out to you while working on TC's Board? This is a remarkable board of directors. I’m constantly amazed at the energy, passion and sheer hard work this board pours into TC every day. Our board made a monumental decision to redevelop the TC site and add five stories of housing above a new, even more effective Together Center on the first floor. I’ll never forget that board meeting and the final bold vote to move ahead—the mix of eager anticipation, deep awareness of what lay ahead, heartfelt passion for our mission, and yes, a tinge of fear, was electrifying! I’m humbled and honored to be part of such a fantastic team, working together with our highly capable staff on this visionary project. |
